The Best Kids Stores in NYC and Brooklyn

A Curated Guide to independent boutiques with clothing, toys, books, gifts and baby gear for stylish families.

By Mariliana Arvelo, founder and creative director of Stylish & Hip Kids Photography. Photos by Katt Jones, SHK team.

Walking around New York City is one of my absolute favorite things to do. Whether it’s shopping in local stores or soaking in the vibrant city vibe, there’s something magical about the experience. I love grabbing a chai or coffee, wandering through the streets, and if I’m with my kids, stopping by playgrounds or bookstores. Over the years, I’ve discovered the best kids stores in NYC and Brooklyn this way, one neighborhood at a time. Shopping here is about discovering unique, meaningful pieces for my family while enjoying the journey.

At Stylish & Hip Kids, we embrace an aesthetic that blends playful, timeless fashion with sustainability. As a parent, I know kids grow fast. It’s about curating a wardrobe with fewer but well-chosen, high-quality pieces. We mix new items from conscious brands with treasures from consignment stores, focusing on sustainable kids’ fashion.

For our sessions, I invite clients to explore our Pinterest board for inspiration and visit these amazing stores to find the perfect pieces. While buying clothes isn’t mandatory for your session, it’s often a fun excuse to invest in something extra special, making the entire experience even more exciting!
