What to expect from your family photo session

Before Your Session

Our approach to NYC family photography is simple. We plan together. We’ll talk about what your family loves to do, what feels natural, and what kind of session excites you. We’ll also send you our family guide with simple tips on how to prepare the kids, what to tell them, how to get them genuinely looking forward to it rather than dreading it.

During Your Session

We come in ready to play and create the kind of energy where everyone forgets there’s a camera. When the kids are happy, parents relax. Just be yourselves. We’ve got everything else covered.

After Your Session

Your gallery arrives within 2-3 weeks, and that’s not where we disappear. We’ll help you figure out what to print, what works as wall art, and what to send to grandparents. The goal is for these photos to actually live in your life, not sit in a folder on your computer.

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Wherever your family actually lives your life. For little ones under 4, we recommend starting the session at home and then walking to your favorite nearby park. For older kids we can go on a real adventure. We have routes all over the city that we can tell you about! We’ll figure out the right route together based on your family’s rhythm and your kids’ ages.

Whatever feels like you. Not everyone has to match in white t-shirts and jeans. That said, a little coordination goes a long way. Colors that work together make a difference. Avoid big logos or anything too busy. Comfort matters more than anything, especially for the kids. Absolutely. We love dogs and they make sessions so fun. Just let us know in advance so we can plan around them.

All of them. Newborns who sleep through everything, toddlers who won’t stay still, school-age kids who have opinions about everything, teenagers who don’t want to be there at first but usually come around. Each age is its own adventure and we genuinely love them all. The approach changes depending on who we’re working with. We’ll talk through what works best for your crew when we plan together.

These are some of our favorite sessions. If your kid is obsessed with soccer, we can happily do the session on the field. If Sunday mornings mean bagels and the farmers market, let’s go there. If you have a favorite pizza place, a board game you always play, or a park you’ve been going to for years, just let us know. The more specific to your family, the better the photos will be because they will really show who you are. We want to photograph your real city life, not a version of it.

Yes, fully and without reservation. Single parents, same-sex couples, blended families, multigenerational families, families with a kid who has different needs. Everyone is welcome and everyone gets the same care and creativity. Family looks different for everyone. That’s what makes this work interesting.

It’s normal to feel a little nervous before your first family session. But we promise that within the first few minutes, most people forget there’s a camera involved at all. We’re good at breaking the ice, keeping things moving, and making it feel less like a photo shoot and more like a fun outing with your family. You don’t need to know how to pose or what to do. That’s our job. Yours is just to show up and have fun.
